Hagalakai ( Bittergourd) Menasakai
Bitter gourd as name depicts is bitter and most of them dislike due to its bitterness.... Its anyways one of my favorite Normally I do eat less spicy but any recipe of bittergourd no matter how spicy it is I just love it..
Health wise Bitter gourd contains vitamin A, B1, B2, and C. It also contains minerals like calcium, phosphorous, iron, copper and potassium. It helps purify blood tissue, enhances digestion, and stimulates the liver and also controls diabetics.
Lets see how Hagalakai ( Bittergourd) Menasakai is prepared, for people who does not like bittergourd can substitute with pineapple or slightly ripened mangoes or hog plums instead of bitter gourd.Even the taste of Hagalakai ( Bittergourd) Menasakai is sweet rather than bitter.
Ingredients required:
Bittergourd - 1 cut into small pieces
Tamarind pulp
Salt
Jaggery- required enough based on sweetness
Turmeric- pinch
Fry and grind:
Red chillies- 7-8
Urad dal 2tsp
Channa dal 2tsp
Jeera 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves
coconut grated 5-6tsp
Seasoning-
Mustard seed 1 tsp
Curry leaves

Method-
- Boil bittergourd along with tamarind, salt, jaggery, turmeric.
- Once boiled, add the grinded mixture and bring it to boil.
- After boiling, heat oil in a pan and give seasoning with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Ready to eat, can be served with rice, chapati, idli or dosa!!!!
